Clinton, Biden Introduce German Holocaust Archives Legistlation

Two U.S. senators introduced legislation urging European nations to allow open access to the Holocaust archives in Bad Arolsen, Germany.
Sens. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) introduced separate resolutions this week regarding the archives, which contain 50 million records regarding the fate of some 17 million victims of the Nazis. Clinton’s resolution mirrors one introduced in the House of Representatives last month by Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), chairman of the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, of which Clinton is a member.
In order to allow for open access, each member of the International Commission of the International Tracing Service — the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom — must ratify the May 2006 amendments to the 1955 Bonn Accords. Only the United States, Israel, Poland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have done so.
Biden’s resolution also commemorates and links the issue to Yom Hashoah, which takes place Sunday. (JTA)

Solomon Morel was a 18 year-old in 1937, who lived with his aunt in £ódŸ, Poland. When World War Two came, he refused to serve in the Polish army. By 1942, he and his brother organized a criminal band and robbed local people.
In 1942, the Communist partisans recruited him, where he worked as a guide through the forests. Today, the Polish government want to hang him for his grave crimes.
Morel Captured
Morel claimed he was a resistance fighter, but he was known as a black marketeer, and pimped Polish girls to German soldiers.
He was arrested by the Nazis for criminal activity, and sent to Auschwitz. He claimed to have lost 39 relatives at Auschwitz.
In 1945, Morel Becomes Commandant Of Zgoda Camp
A former subcamp of Auschwitz, in 1945 the NKVD took it over and put Solomon Morel in charge.
The camp was considered one of the most cruel Stalinist crimes against the Silesian population.
The Camps
They didn’t arrest war criminals, but mainly civilians. The communist Jews emptied local villages of their German leaders and sent them there.

If a gentile owned a business, he would be arrested, and sent to Morel. A local Jew would then buy the business for back taxes. “His favorite method of killing prisoners was hacking the skull of his victims with a wooden leg of a chair,” according to the book. He killed thousands.

Morel and his band of ‘Jewish ex-partisans’ also abducted local children. Local town Jews informed on town girls, who were soon abducted. About 6,000 people were kept in the camp since it was opened.

“I knew Morel in the camp. He was a very brutal and sadistic man,” survivor Dorota Boriczek said. “He was young then, full of lust, I could hear the cries of the young boys during the night.”

The guards at Morel’s camp were Jewish criminals fresh out of Auschwitz, and the first thing they did was beat their old Nazis guards to death with shovels.

In the early 1990s, the Main Commission for the Investigations of Crimes Against the Polish Nation started an official investigation of Mr. Morel’s activities in the Swietochlowice Camp after witness articles appeared in the press.
Flees To Israel
In 1994, Mr. Morel sought political asylum in Sweden. This was refused. He then successfully sought sanctuary in Israel.

An old Jewish man who took his own cold-blooded revenge against Germans for the Holocaust will not be extradited back to Poland from Israel to answer charges of genocide.
The case of Solomon Morel, 86, is the only one in Holocaust history where a Jew stands accused of war crimes against Germans.
It has perplexed legal minds in both countries. Poland says genocide is genocide whether a Jew or a Nazi committed it, while many Israelis see rough justice in the 1500 German deaths for which Mr Morel is alleged to be responsible.
Now the Israeli Government has said that Mr Morel will not be sent back to stand trial in Poland under any circumstances.
Mr Morel, who came from the little Polish town of Grabowo, claims he was an Auschwitz survivor whose family was murdered by the Nazis during World War II. A book, An Eye for an Eye, which documents his strange life, claims his family was indeed liquidated, but by Poles who collaborated with the Nazis. It also says that he was never imprisoned by the Germans.

AdvertisementBy 1943 he was employed peeling potatoes for a Jewish partisan brigade before escaping to the Soviet Union, where he trained in the gruesome interrogation methods of the NKVD, Stalin’s political police, before returning to Poland in 1945. He was then put in charge by the communists of a camp containing thousands of German prisoners including SS men, soldiers and civilians.
John Sack, the Jewish-American author of An Eye for an Eye, claims Mr Morel, as commandant of Swietochlowice Camp, morphed into the kind of monster that would have been welcomed by the Gestapo.
“His favourite method of killing prisoners was hacking the skull of his victims with a wooden leg of a chair,” according to the book. “It is quite possible that in Swietochlowice several thousand persons were murdered by Morel and his men.”

Camp survivorSack’s book, and a score of Polish books and newspaper articles, said he beat, shot, starved, tortured and killed with gusto in the camp.

Poland tried to extradite him seven years ago on torture charges. Israel refused. So prosecutors began preparing a genocide case, for which there is no statute of limitations.
Last week, they received a blank refusal from Israel saying “there was no basis whatsoever” to extradite Mr Morel.
A Polish prosecutor said testimony from former inmates documented Mr Morel’s torture of at least 13 prisoners.
“There should be one measure for judging war criminals, irrespective whether they are German, Israeli, or any other nationality,” the prosecutor said.
